Underwood Consulting provides higher education accreditation assistance (including workshops and presentations on assessment and accreditation in higher education), program evaluation, survey research, and data analysis services. Dr. David Underwood was a peer reviewer for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools for more than 15 years and has been a consultant-evaluator for the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association for 15 years. Dr. Susan Underwood is also a consultant evaluator for the Higher Learning Commission.

In the last few years, Dr. David Underwood has been providing presentations and assistance in developing multiple math pathways for college students and identifiying multiple measures for making better educational placement predictions for math placement success. Dr. Underwood also has experience with the Gateways to Completion (G2C) program from the John N. Gardner Institute, having led a three year initiative at Arkansas Tech University. The university is continuing to expand the process to other courses although the the initial three-year project was completed. Data indicate that each fall semester at least 199 students are successfully completing gateway courses who would not have been successful prior to the initiative. Samples of some of the presentations regarding the initiatives just discussed can be viewed on the “Presentations Page”.

Most recently, Dr. David Underwood has provided “Rubric Norming” workshops for faculty in each of the six colleges at the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff (UAPB). UAPB has chosen to use rubrics developed by the American Association of Colleges and Universities https://www.aacu.org/value-rubrics to measure specific learning goals identified by the university. The workshops were conducted in accordance with the norming approach recommended, and used by, Quality Matters https://www.qualitymatters.org/ .

Although our services are primarily directed toward postsecondary educational institutions, many of the evaluation, training, and data analysis services can easily prove beneficial to business customers or other educational levels. When these services are needed, especially when the activity is not routine, it is much more cost effective to bring in a consultant than to recruit and maintain staff positions to provide the needed service internally.
